Jim Dunlap

The Henderson Independent School District (HISD) Board of Trustees has unanimously voted to appoint Jim Dunlap as Interim Superintendent. Dunlap, whose career in public education spans six decades, brings a wealth of experience to the district.

Dunlap has served in a variety of educational roles throughout his career, including teacher, principal, and district administrator. He has been a superintendent in Diboll, Beckville, and Hallsville ISDs. Dunlap has also served as interim or acting superintendent in Rains, Mabank, Canton, Oakwood, Cumby and Carthage school districts.

“I am honored,” said Dunlap. “I am excited about the opportunity to serve in Henderson ISD and the tradition of excellence found here. I truly appreciate the trust extended by the board.”

He currently serves as Chief Operating Officer and Lead Superintendent Search Consultant at Arrow Educational Services, Inc., and has worked as the Director of Administrative Services and a field service agent at the Region 7 Education Service Center. Dunlap has also been an adjunct instructor at Texas A&M University-Texarkana.

Dunlap was recognized as the Region 7 Superintendent of the Year, nominated by the Diboll ISD and Hallsville ISD Boards of Trustees. He was also named Distinguished Alumnus of Carthage High School.

Dunlap holds a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Education from Stephen F. Austin State University with additional graduate work at Texas A&M College Station and Lamar University.

Trustees appointed Dunlap during a special meeting on Monday, temporarily filling a vacancy left by the recent resignation of Dr. Thurston Lamb. The board has said they expect to begin a formal superintendent search later this year.
