Brian Bowman

Henderson, TX—The Henderson Independent School District (HISD) Board of Trustees named Brian Bowman as the lone finalist for the position of superintendent this evening. The announcement came after the board spent most of the day reviewing applications and interviewing selected candidates. Mr. Bowman is expected to officially begin in February, pending the required 21-day waiting period.

Mr. Bowman, who currently serves as superintendent of Diboll ISD, brings over 20 years of educational leadership experience to HISD, much of it rooted in East Texas. During his time at Diboll ISD, he managed a $20 million budget, secured major grants to enhance infrastructure and programming, and implemented initiatives that improved student outcomes. He has spent time in the classroom and as an administrator in a number of school districts. At Gilmer High School, he served as principal, leading the campus to achieve many academic distinctions and strengthen its ties with the community. Earlier in his career, Mr. Bowman served as Director of Community and Media Relations at Longview ISD, where he was instrumental in managing public relations during a $267 million district bond project and expanding parent engagement initiatives.

HISD Board President Russell Brown expressed his support for Mr. Bowman’s selection, saying, “Brian Bowman has a deep-seated understanding of what makes East Texas schools successful. He acquired that by working at all levels of education from teaching in the classroom to leading a school district. His personal values and priorities align with those expected by our entire community. He respects Henderson ISD’s tradition of excellence, and he evidences the commitment required to assist our teachers and staff in their ongoing work to restore it. The Board unanimously supports Mr. Bowman, and we look forward to him beginning work with us. We are confident in the meaningful impact that he will have on HISD and the entire community. We welcome his family to Henderson.”

For Mr. Bowman, this new role represents a meaningful return to the East Texas region he calls home. “Having spent much of my career in East Texas, coming to Henderson feels less like starting somewhere new and more like coming home,” he shared. “With children and grandchildren in the area, this opportunity allows me to reconnect with a place that has always been special to me and my family. I’ve long admired Henderson ISD’s tradition of excellence and am eager to build on its strong foundation to support students, staff, and families.”
