HENDERSON, TEXAS — The Henderson ISD Board of Trustees formally hired Brian Bowman as the district’s next superintendent during a special meeting on Tuesday night. Following the board’s approval, Bowman signed his contract and will officially begin his duties Wednesday morning.

Bowman comes to Henderson ISD with more than 20 years of experience in educational leadership, most recently serving as the superintendent of Diboll ISD. His career includes roles as a principal at both Gilmer High School and Centennial High School in Burleson ISD, where he led efforts that improved academic performance, reduced discipline referrals, and strengthened community engagement. He has also held district leadership positions, including Director of Human Resources and Director of Community and Media Relations.

At Diboll ISD, Bowman implemented a new employee recognition program and secured multiple competitive grants, including a $3 million TLL Temple Foundation grant and a $5 million Full-Service Community Grant from the U.S. Department of Education. His leadership in school safety and infrastructure improvements has been widely recognized, including implementing the Guardian Program to enhance crisis response.

“For me, this new role represents more than just a new opportunity—it’s a return to the East Texas region I call home,” Bowman said. “With children and grandchildren in the area, this is more than just a professional move; it’s a chance to reconnect with a community that has always been special to me and my family. I’ve long admired Henderson ISD’s tradition of excellence and am eager to build on its strong foundation to support students, staff, and families.”

HISD Board President Russell Brown expressed his confidence in Bowman’s leadership, stating, “Brian Bowman has a deep-seated understanding of what makes East Texas schools successful. He acquired that by working at all levels of education, from teaching in the classroom to leading a school district. His personal values and priorities align with those expected by our entire community. He respects Henderson ISD’s tradition of excellence, and he evidences the commitment required to assist our teachers and staff in their ongoing work to restore it. The Board unanimously supports Mr. Bowman, and we look forward to him beginning work with us. We are confident in the meaningful impact that he will have on HISD and the entire community. We welcome his family to Henderson.”

Bowman will begin his first full day as superintendent on tomorrow, meeting with district leadership and staff as he transitions into his new role.
